The Microcosmic Orbit practice is utilized to move energy around one’s energy meridians or channels.
Using Internal Chi Kung techniques can be categorized as Nei kung.
The Chi or energy that we cultivate through our various practices can be moved in accordance with our mind or intentions. The Chi can be guided. Our aim here is to create a continuous flow of energy through the body, known as the Microcosmic Orbit. Where intention goes, energy flows.
Bridge the tongue and inhale the breath through the nose and allow the energy to pass down through the Conception Vessel [Yin] meridian, from the tip of the tongue down the front of the body, in front of the spine, to the Belly Centre where it will be fired up and energized.
Breathe out and take the energy down to the perineum or Base Chakra. Breathe in allowing the energy to rise up the Governor Vessel [Yang] meridian, behind the spine simultaneously passing through all seven chakra centres and corresponding glands: sexual, adrenals, pancreas, thymus, thyroid, pituitary and pineal glands. On exhalation let the energy descend again, down from the crown to the upper palate, flowing down the front channel. Repeat and circulate the Chi.
To pack the Chi into your body, inhale and retain the breath whilst sealing base (perineum), navel (suck the navel in towards your spine) and throat centres (tuck your chin in towards your chest). Pack the Chi into your bone marrow. Imagine the Chi expanding from inside the bone marrow outwards to permeate the whole skeleton and store the Chi into the bones as Jing.
This technique helps to prevent energy blockages and help with concentration and technical skill. The ultimate purpose for the individual to become at one with heaven or the Great Tao.
NOTE: These types of exercises are best practiced under the guidance of a teacher, especially if the there is a history of mental illness or emotional imbalance.
